چکیده

It is of particular importance to establish accurate preoperative diagnosis for adnexal masses. Reliable recognition of benign masses would reduce the number of redundant surgeries for asymptomatic benign lesions. Ovarian cancer (OC) is the most fatal of all gynaecologic malignancies in women. Optimal cytoreductive surgery is the most significant prognostic factor in the management of OC (Harlan et al., 2003; Gultekin et al., 2009). In the event of high index of suspicion for ovarian cancer, patients should undergo surgery in tertiary care units where optimal cytoreductive surgery could be performed. Cancer antigen 125 (CA-125) is a cell surface glycoprotein of 220-kDa molecular weight. Elevated CA125 levels are found in 80% of non-mucinous epithelial ovarian cancers. A cut-off value of 35U/mL yields 83.1%

Risk of malignancy index as an evaluation of preoperative pelvic mass

Background: Risk of malignancy index (RMI) is the best method for discriminating benign and malignant pelvic masses. The aim of this study was to determine the RMI for preoperative evaluation of pelvic mass. Methods: This study was performed on 182 women with adenexal mass referred to Yahyahnejiad Hospital of Babol University of Medical Sciences in Iran from 2007 to 2009.The sensitivity, specif...

Evaluation of diagnostic accuracy of RMI and ROMA indices in comparison to HE4 and CA125 parameters for estimating the risk of malignancy of adnexal masses.

Background: Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cancer-related cause of death in women worldwide and is often diagnosed at advanced stages. Regarding the low sensitivity and specificity of the currently available diagnostic techniques, in the present study, we aimed to evaluate the accuracy of RMI and ROMA indexes and comparing these two indexes with CA-125 and HE4 parameters for the diagnosis ...

Risk of malignancy index in preoperative evaluation of pelvic masses.

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of risk of malignancy index (RMI) based on a serum CA125 level, ultrasound findings and menopausal status in primary evaluation of patients with adnexal masses in daily clinical practice. METHODS One hundred and fifty one women with adnexal masses were enrolled. Ultrasound characteristics, menopausal status and serum CA125 level were doc...

Is Risk Malignancy Index a Useful Tool for Predicting Malignant Ovarian Masses in Developing Countries?

Introduction. Risk of Malignancy Index (RMI) is widely studied for prediction of malignant pelvic masses in Western population. However, little is known regarding its implication in the developing countries. The objective of this study is to determine how accurately the RMI can predict the malignant pelvic masses. Materials and Methods. The study is a retrospective review of patients attending ...

I-41: Imaging Strategy for Diagnosis of Adnexal Masses Including US,CT Scan and MRI

Adnexal masses are spectrum of diseases from benign non neoplastic and neoplastic masses to malignant neoplasms. Endovaginal ultrasonography (US) is the fisrt and invaluable modality for assessment of adnexal masses because it is available and has a high negative predictive value. Important morphologic features are solid (vascularized) tissue, vascular and thick septations, and papillary projec...
